Requesting some thoughts for voting this Saturday in the SC primary.

Since there are no primaries for democrats, the wife and I get to soil our hands and vote in the Rethug primary. I've been mulling the different strategies for choosing who to vote for and I can't seem to find one that makes more sense than another. I've been weighing the following ideas:

1. A vote for the Grinch in order to help keep Romney and Newt bashing the hell out of each other and drag the nomination out as long as possible, however, the Grinch is likely to already do well down here since he's been blowing the dog whistles and the Evangelicals can't stand the thought of voting for a mormon.

2. Voting for Mittens to drive the Evangelicals crazy having to choose between a mormon or a "Muslim" (read: scary non-white person). {On a side note, one of my clients thought it was hilarious to tell me how she almost laughed herself to tears when telling one of her African-American "friends" that said friend must be supporting Obama so the friend could get "her 40 acres and a mule". Yeah, hilarious you racist ignoramus.}

3. Voting for The Frothy One to, again, throw a little more chaos into the race and split the GreedyOl'Pigs a little more...and he's just good for some comedy gold. And if by some freak of a chance, he wins the whole thing, he has the least viable chance to challenge Obama.

4. Voting for Paul. With him making even the slightest bit of a showing, he's more likely to run as an independent either on his own or to campaign for the Americans Elect nomination. With him in the race as an independent, he will further fracture the Repuke vote and make it that much easier for Obama to be reelected.

I am currently most leaning toward #4 but I am torn as to which of my scenarios is the most effective or if I missed another idea.

That really is a tough choice.

Edit: A vote for Gingrich would probably be better because the longer these primaries are dragged on the less momentum the nominee will have.

SC has open primaries. You can vote in any primary as long as you do not vote in both the Rethug and Democratic one. Since the Dems aren't having one, I can use my vote in the Repuke one.

How are the most recent polls? Last I heard, Mitt was still comfortably ahead, with Gingrich gaining.

My gut reaction was to vote for Gingrich, depending on momentum and the polls, since it didn't look like Gingrich was going to win, last I saw.

Voting for the likely #2 would have the most effect, if you can determine who that might be.

He won't want to jeopardise his son's chances of mounting a takeover of the GOP.

It surely has to be #1.

Careful, don't make the same kind of mistake many on the right did when they voted FOR Obama instead of Hillary, thinking that Mr. Obama would never be able to win in the general election. I am glad it happened that way but we should be careful to not make the same kind of mistake with Newt.

Let the Republicans open their wallets more to help out the economy. By keeping this going the more they'll open their wallets in support of their candidate.

Maybe you might think about whether this is something you should do.

Your answer may be yes, but perhaps you might consider whether this sort of thing is consistent with your noble self.

If their votes can help a little to ultimately keep Obama in the WH, it's a selfless move that benefits the entire country.

I'm not all that confident that Obama will win handily, and I think if we were to get a Romney or Gingrich in the WH, it would be disastrous for our country and people. And, if we can even attempt to make it harder for them to do that, I think we should.

PS -- I just tuned in this morning to see that Gingrich is leading Romney by 6 points! Don't know if that was a national or SC poll, but wow! This Republican primary has been surreal. I honestly think if we were watching this story presented as a fictional movie, we'd think maybe it had pushed credulity past the limit. Cray-zee.

If Cain-Colbert receive a significant percent of the votes in SC it would send a message to the big donors and the leaders of all parties that the rules are changing.

The ads and interviews are getting lots of play, no idea if people will take the step and actually vote. If I were in SC, I would for the first time vote for a Republican.

If I remember, about 6,000 voters would for each 1% in the results. The rally Friday at CofC should get some media coverage. Online seems primed. Will buzz be strong enough for people to take action? Maybe, based on the crowd on The Mall in DC.

Felt strange with the SC images while Stephen and James Taylor sang "going to Carolina in my mind." JT grew up here in Chapel Hill and usually it would be NC, but effective this time as SC. Last heard JT sing this in person at an Obama rally here in CH.

Almost couldn't do it...it was sickening even looking at the ballot. As soon as I cast my vote, I started sneezing like 4 time in a row...I'm pretty sure that I am allergic to rethugs.
