Gov. Gretchen Whitmer posted a welcome on social media but was not on hand. The states two Democratic senators, Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters, and a leading candidate for Ms. Stabenows seat, Representative Elissa Slotkin, all were otherwise occupied.

Otherwise occupied? Excuse me? This is your president in the fight of OUR lives.

(11,288 posts)1. I wouldn't be too concerned, it depends who is invited to fly with the president to the rally
They are at work in congress right now. Whitmer may well have a prior commitment, she certainly has proclaimed her support for him.

(119,067 posts)2. NYT's headline puts the most negative spin on the fact that
these people weren't there because they really did have prior commitments. The article did mention (grudgingly?) that Whitmer, Peters and Stabenow posted statements of support on social media.

(16,722 posts)8. Strange indeed as I watched a video of Biden and Stabenow together
It was at a smaller venue. He made the joke about someone confusing Deborah with Jill.
I didnt really even know who was in the crowd. So, I know Joe did shout outs to some people in the crowd. I cant remember who they were!

They got punked a couple time with gotcha stories. The Parkinson's kerfuffle, and Biden's advisers allegedly pushing him out.
