This is the defining photograph of Trump vs. victims of bullies who happen to have Republican parents with well-stocked gun rooms.

(52,500 posts)dead is disgusting. He had no idea how his supporters were doing at the time he mugged for the camera. He expressed no concern for anyone. Just took a moment to ask about his shoes and strike a pose.
Skittles
(168,487 posts)he doesn't give a DAMN about anyone else
but I don't understand how the SS would allow that, it makes no fucking sense
mzmolly
(52,500 posts)him overall. I agree it make no sense. It's like "here, take another shot!"

(6,133 posts)Wow what a callous asshole in the moment. Now after all if said and done if he doesnt acknowledge the deceased and injured you have an argument.
mzmolly
(52,500 posts)regardless. I think he's a callous asshole and that was further demonstrated by his seeking a photo op in the midst of it all. People were still screaming and panicking at the time. Being politically advised to say a few words about the dead after the fact, isn't very revealing.
That said, he's reportedly out golfing today.

(12,011 posts)I don't see how he could have possibly known that moments after he was shot and the Secret Service was scrambling to get him off stage.
mzmolly
(52,500 posts)Did he understand that there was a mass shooting into a crowd of his supporters? Why would anyone think about his image at a time like that?
Skittles
(168,487 posts)are you seriously defending that POS? Shots fired around ANY CROWD may mean casualties
democrattotheend
(12,011 posts)I think he's a total piece of garbage human being and yesterday doesn't change that. But I always try to be fair to everyone, and I wouldn't judge anyone for things they say in the seconds or minutes after being shot at. Even far more empathetic people might not think to ask about other casualties moments after being nicked by a bullet and shoved to the ground. There are plenty of things to criticize Trump for. Picking apart what he said or did or didn't say or do in the moments after he was shot just sounds petty and ridiculous.
If in the coming days and weeks he talks only about what happened to him and doesn't mention the other victims that's another story.
mzmolly
(52,500 posts)That's my issue. This is not the behavior of a compassionate human being.
Skittles
(168,487 posts)bottom line is, if the repuke party had their way AR15's would be issued to every household - THIS IS ON THEM
democrattotheend
(12,011 posts)And one that we should make, although maybe not immediately for strategic reasons. Once the dust settles, it's totally reasonable to criticize Trump's stance on guns, his history of encouraging violence, etc. But criticizing him for not immediately asking about other casualties in the heat of the moment makes us sound ridiculous.

(25,355 posts)is not heroic. It shows ego over concern for others. Me, me, me.
We should call it the "Look at me" photo. Never mind that other guy who died or the people who were injured. *I* am ok and that's all that matters.
Meantime, reports are coming in that the man who died was the real hero of the day. He died because he shielded his family when he heard the shots.

(12,011 posts)I hate to say it, but this photo makes the fact that Biden came across as old and weak even worse. Obviously, I'd much rather have a president who's compassionate and human, old or not, but the contrast isn't good for us.

(15,720 posts)then puts his fist up and says "fight, fight, fight." This per France24 live report. But it accords with the NYT video. So he made sure to capitalize on the publicity before he was even back on his feet. I think that's why the agents are grinning in the Iwo Jima tableau.
