Former GOP Chair Accuses Aileen Cannon of 'Coordination' With RNC

Former chairman of the Republican National Committee Michael Steele accused Judge Aileen Cannon on Saturday of "coordination" with the Republican National Convention following the dismissal of Donald Trump's classified documents case.

Cannon, who was appointed to the bench by Trump in 2020, dismissed the former president's classified documents case arguing that Department of Justice (DOJ) special counsel Jack Smith's appointment was unconstitutional and that her decision was supported by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas' opinion in the highest court's presidential immunity case.

Trump was facing 40 federal charges over his alleged handling of sensitive materials seized from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, after he left the White House. He was also accused of obstructing efforts by federal authorities to retrieve them. He pleaded not guilty.

The dismissal comes as the convention kicked off on Monday in Milwaukee where Trump accepted the GOP's nomination for the 2024 election.

During Saturday's MSNBC's The Weekend, Steele, who is a co-host on the program, discussed the timing of Cannon's ruling with former prosecutor and MSNBC host Katie Phang.

Smith appointment unconstitutional per a Supreme Court Justice who is owned by billionaires who have no use for the constitution and per a judge who got her job by the machinations of republicans who care not about lawful and orderly exercises and appointed by a stone cold felon who sure as hell does not want the constitution to operate as prescribed. Just a stab by a veteran who wants the constitution to live.

To even cite Corrupt Clarence's 'opinion' , whose own wife was involved in a coup to overthrow the government, is just ridiculous. An opinion isn't law.

No sh*t, Sherlock.

I think that cannon has been receiving advice on legal strategy from a cabal of attorneys funded by billionaires who want to re-install red don. She didn't figure out all of the steps on her own.

how "I Lean" could make this decision so quickly when any other decision from her on any motion took weeks and weeks.
