by James Crugnale
During CNNs South Carolina debate, the audience erupted in jeers when John King tried to switch topics from abortion before letting Congressman Ron Paul give his two-cents. All right, lets take another question, King said, before being interrupted by the crowd to let Paul respond. Lets take a question now from social media, question before we move on, you want in on this issue?
John, once again, its a medical subject. Im a doctor! Paul exclaimed to cheers. No, I do want to make a couple comments because I can remember the very early years studying obstetrics and I was told it was before the age of abortion. I was told taking care of a woman thats pregnant, you have two patients. I think that solves a lot of the problem about, you know, when life begins and all.
I also experienced a time later on in my training in the 1960s when the culture was changing, Paul continued. The Vietnam war was going on. The drugs were there. Pornography came in and abortion became prevalent even though it was illegal. The morality of the country changed. The law followed up. When morality changed, it reflects on the laws. The laws very important. We should have these laws. Law will not correct the basic problem. Thats the morality of the people.

(58,354 posts)I hate it when the corporate media trys to winnow the field by purposely ignoring or short changing candidates during debates and I don't care which poltical party this pertains to.
They did the same thing to Kucinich during 08 putting him on the edge of the stage and asking him far fewer questions.
Thanks for the thread, ProSense.

(82,849 posts)Wait, what? Lots of dog whistles there. "Two patients" "when life begins" "culture was changing" "law's very important" and "morality". But none of it addresses the issue. When does Dr. Paul think life begins? Has the culture changed in the last 50 years? Certainly the law has, and the law of the land now is that abortion is legal, even if some people think it's icky. And what does "morality" have to do with all of this? Who's morals are we talking about here? His? Newt Gingrich's? Some random crackhead?
So glad we got this deathless pronouncement from Dr. Paul. That cleared everything up.

(82,849 posts)Now, if Dr. Paul could have somehow worked in uppity or arrogant, I believe he would have ascended directly to heaven before our very eyes.

(65,001 posts)So, when he first started practicing, there were no home pregnancy tests. So, women had to go the doctor's office to get the test.
So, when the lady came in, the doctor had ONE patient and when she left the doctor had 2?
So Dr. Paul, are you saying that life begins at the first office visit?
