Always, always, always, check snopes whenever you get such garbage. A good 99% of the time it's wrong.

I would respond back with the snopes link showing it was false, and he'd email back, "I don't have time to check everything."
Sure, he doesn't have "time" to check the right wing crap.
His e-mails now go immediately into my e-mail trash bin.

(135,060 posts)The Truth:
This eRumor gets a little complex. There were increases in Medicare premiums announced in 2010. There were no Cost of Living increases for Social Security recipients in 2010 or 2011. Congressional representatives have not received pay raises since 2009 and in 2010 actually voted to stop their annual automatic cost of living increases.

We seniors get the shaft and Congress gets the gold mine. No surprise really!!!
Your Medicare Increase
For those of you who are on Medicare, read below. It is about the monthly amount of money you are going to pay in Medicare premiums in 2011, 2012 and the huge increase you will pay in 2013, thanks to the 2011 Congress.
Congress will not allow an increase in the social security COLA (cost of living adjustment); however, the per person monthly Medicare insurance premium will be increased from the 2009 premium of $96.40 to $104.20 in 2012, $120.20 for the year 2013 AND increases to a wonderful $247.00 in 2014.
Congress also gave themselves a $3,000 a month Cost of Living Adjustment!
Send this to all seniors that you know.
So they will know who's throwing them under the bus.

(8,994 posts)Complain about it being only 3.6% or be happy it's even that much?
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)a couple of months ago, and it was 3%. Most people have gotten low or no raises in recent years, so SS recipients are better off than many working people in that respect.

(146,254 posts)In point of fact, my Medicare Part B premium went down from $109 to $99 per month for 2012. My monthly SS payment went up $45 per month. This nonsense you posted was written before the actual rates were set. You can find the actual information you need to debunk this on the SSA site, the official site of the Social Security Administration: www.ssa.gov

(18,219 posts)And to make my point have more power, I always hit "reply all" so that my truth will go to every person who got the false information. So what if I can't sway the sender---which may or may not be true (usually not true). I can at least have a chance to get through to someone.
The down side to this is that there are a few senders who now send these emails just to me, and probably send the mass mail out separately. Damn, there is always a way to thwart the truth getting out!
