Scott Brown: What About All The Rich Schoolteachers?

Source: TPM

Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) made the case in Lowell, MA on Friday that letting the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy expire would create a burden for well-off teachers, firefighters, and police officers.

From the Lowell Sun, which held an editorial board meeting with the Senator:

Brown also took on President Barack Obama for proposing tax hikes on families who earn more than $250,000 per year, saying that would hurt “teachers, firefighters, policemen, folks who work two jobs.”

Asked which public servants earn that much money, Brown said it is common for police officers to earn well over $100,000 annually when overtime is factored into their pay.

“You throw in a teacher who’s working, plus a summer job, it adds up pretty quickly,” he said. “There’s quite a few of them.”

even if you can find one or two such couples the tax increase would be on the income over 250k. So say you find a couple or two where they make 260k then the 10k will be taxed at a slightly higher percentage. They may have to pay about $300 more, big whoop.

the people of MA are smart enough not to be fooled by this nonsense. They have good education in MA and one he has obviously discounted in his estimation of how his campaign can win.

This guy is just plain out of touch with his own electorate.

GO, ELIZABETH WARREN!

Due to some extreme emergencies, I almost hit six figures this year, but I worked (on average) 80 hours a week for six months. It was like I worked two full time jobs for half of last year. I did the work, I got paid for it. I worked my ass off. Why shouldn't I get paid for all of my extra time working? Am I supposed to donate my time so some corporate hack can skim even more off of the top? What stupid ass ideas these people get. PAY THE WORKER FOR THE WORK HE/SHE DOES!
