It's a re-run, but it was a really informative interview.

As an EHM (Economic Hit Man), Perkins’s job was to convince Third World countries to accept enormous loans for infrastructure development—loans that were much larger than needed—and to guarantee that the development projects were contracted to U.S. corporations like Halliburton and Bechtel.

Once these countries were saddled with huge debts, the U.S. government and the international aid agencies allied with it were able to control these economies and to ensure that oil and other resources were channeled to serve the interests of building a global empire.

Perkins is the author of the New York Times bestseller, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, and the new book, Hoodwinked: An Economic Hit Man Reveals Why the World Financial Markets Imploded–and What We Need to Do to Remake Them.

I have read a few of his books and listened to him with Amy Goodman. Seems, to me, that he knows the truth of how things operate.

2. no problem. Some of of the stuff he talks about seems so outrageous that I don't know whether to

believe it or not. But then I realize that it's really just stuff that everybody knows happens anyway and what makes it seem outrageous is that it's a view from the inside. What I'd like to see, is more similar first-hand accounts and descriptions from other people like Mr. Perkins, to sort of corroborate the story, not that I don't believe him.

3. Perkins opened my eyes to the predatory practices of the IMF and World Bank a long time ago.

Everything I've read about them since has only verified, for me, what he said originally.
