Rasmussen shows Obama leading Gingrich by 7 points

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

Today, Rasmussen Reports will begin daily tracking of the potential match-ups between President Obama and both former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and House Speaker Newt Gingrich. (sign up for free daily e-mail update).

Today’s numbers show Obama and Romney tied at 44% each while the president leads Gingrich 47% to 40%. Romney leads the president by four among unaffiliated voters while Gingrich trails by seven. Romney also does a bit better among Republicans, picking up 79% of the GOP vote while Gingrich attracts 74%. This is consistent with results found throughout the campaign season that Tea Party activists are willing to support whoever wins the nomination while more Establishment oriented Republicans are less likely to make such a commitment.

1. If Gingrich continues to win and becomes the nominee I think those numbers tighten.

Many voters are influenced by winning, regardless of the candidate. This is going to be an ugly Presidential campaign regardless but it will be several levels uglier if Gingrich is the nominee.

They're in the news, in the spotlight. There's no scrutiny among the wider public.

and other fecal matter against Pres. Obama to try to close that gap. Meanwhile Ron Paul, who served in Congress much longer than Newt, will probably start to unleash his own arsenal of truthiness about that 4-legged snake.

I am hoping that eventually, the negativity that is about to go into full force, will turn the independents off from the GOP altogether.

3. If Newt is their nominee, my Repuke husband won't vote

He likes "businessman" Romney. When the SC results were shown, he changed the channel. When he sees a Newt ad, the channel is changed. He didn't like Bush and voted for Perot. The second Bush time he sat home and didn't vote at all.

One less Repuke vote, is a vote for Obama.
