considering it seems to be mostly college-age people working there, I doubt they pay much above mininum. Is middle class is being defined downward--if you HAVE any sort of job, I guess you're middle class?

People who are lucky enough to still have their pre-Bush recession jobs have no idea what it's really like out there.

There is a huge back end to the corporation....inside sales...outside sales, etc.

Its not just retail sales at the stores.

Non-living wage jobs are the new norm. If you can't live on the salary, that's your problem. Just occupy yourself trying to pull up those non-existent bootstraps.

a bit ahead of the times. If Staples jobs aren't the typical
middle class job today, they soon will be IF things don't
change.

Both delivered. They merged and hung on for awhile. A buddy of mine worked there and was paid fairly well. Most of their people were paid lower middle class wages.

There is no way our local Staples has as many full time people paid as well. The manager is a friend of mine. I'll ask him the next time I see him.

at their stores: Box opener/shelf stocker and cashier. I'd be surprised if they pay over $10/hr. And they are almost certainly P/T with no benefits.

Oh, and the people that make copies and do the shipping, but those might all be UPS employees because they are a UPS outlet.

Lots of mid-level sales managers raking in $40 to 60k a year with maybe a $2k bonus. Rolling in that middle class dough!

But the management and corporate jobs pay pretty well. One of my friends has a sister who worked her way up from a low-level job, all the way to the director level. Last I heard, she was a national marketing director. And she started with them right out of college with a Art degree, doing store displays and signs.
