I can be happy with any one of the four remaining GOPers getting the nomination

Each is fatally flawed. Not one of them can come close to beating the incumbent Democrat. I am less sure if any one of them can help coattail a few more republicans at the senate or house levels, but I tend to think not.

Romney could have been seen as the least crazy, but his glaring out-of-touchedness is his downfall. He won't be able to overcome some of his more famous quotes and antics. "Corporations are people, too." "Maybe" followed by that disingenuous grin when asked if he will release his tax returns. And so forth.

Gingrich is widely hated, even among those who he needs to vote for him. His win in South Carolina is more the result of a batshit crazy upstate electorate, and a visceral hatred for the Mormon guy, than any support for Newt. The GOP big guys hate his ass, and most congresspeople, who he will to campaign for him, do too.

Foamy Fecal Matter is crazy in a way that shows. Very narrow appeal to a very narrow slice of the religiously insane.

Grandpa Moonbat has some of the most loyal, most adoring, most hardcore supporters in the universe. Problem for him is they're all in already. If there are million of them active now, that's all there will ever be. He is stuck on his numbers today. He can't grow then any higher.

I still see Romney as the most likely to get more than 30% of the vote in the November presidential race. Maybe.

So who might you wanna back for 2016? And ought that person be the VEEP this go-round? Nothing against Biden. I like him. But strategically thinking . . . .

Good analysis. Disagree on the vp slot. Biden should stay. FSogol Jan 2012 #1
I like guverner Marty. Mark Warner is too conservative for my liking. Stinky The Clown Jan 2012 #2
I like Warren. At this point, she needs more experience. By 2016, maybe. n/t FSogol Jan 2012 #5
Agreed Biden should stay. A change there would show weakness. Let's not help the GOP. Kurmudgeon Jan 2012 #4
Would any of the "also rans" be any better? HopeHoops Jan 2012 #3

2016? MD Gov Martin O'Malley or VA Sen Mark Warner.

O'Malley is pretty squeaky clean. No scandals except one that was manufactured by Ehrlich/Mike Steele/Karl Rove when he ran against Ehrlich, but that was soundly disproved. He is married to a smart, savvy, woman who is a judge. He has two kids and the family is very photogenic.

The only wild card is that he may be saddled with some tax increases that he's pushing. He's also openly backing a gay marriage bill.

What about Elizabeth Warren?
