She's speaking in complete sentences.

I root for her like I would a member of our family. I know she will return to Congress when she feels she's ready.

It's sad she has to step down, but I do understand. She still has a long road ahead of her. I have a feeling we haven't heard the last from Gabby, though.

Sarah Palin can go to hell for her role in "targeting" Gabby. Hope Caribou Barbie is happy now.

I also blame Sarah Baracuda and her 'targets'. Mission accomplished, hey Palin? Nothing will change my opinion.

That smile is great to see. We will miss you, Gabby.

Just doing this in this graceful and eloquent way, as difficult physically and emotionally it must've been for you, is helping. You set a high and hopeful standard.

Gabby, I can't wait to see your continued recovery. You are an inspiration and one that I hope to see back with a national platform soon.

Poster really nailed it right there.

This had nothing to do with the "gun lobby", but rather the piss-poor state of mental health services in this country any more.

I have no doubt even if guns were completely banned, Jared Loughner would have found a way to harm her. Might have even succeeded in killing her and many more than he did had he used a bomb instead of a gun.

The fact is indisputable, Jared Lee Loughner was able to buy a handgun and two 33 round magazines. Yes, the school system and the military failed in not reporting him, but he was still able to buy those items without so much as a basic interview to determine if he was of sound mind.

"I have no doubt even if guns were completely banned, Jared Loughner would have found a way to harm her. Might have even succeeded in killing her and many more than he did had he used a bomb instead of a gun."

That's pretty disjunctive reasoning...you're not suggesting the tragedy would have been the same if he wasn't able to purchase a handgun and extended capacity magazines are you?

I'm entitled to my opinion of where the ultimate failure in this tragedy rests and I'm sticking to it.

The 33-round magazine canard is weak sauce.

The bottom line is: where there is a will, there is a way.

Focus shouldn't be on the particular tool he used, but the reasons WHY he did it.

Until we address that, nothing will stop future episodes of mass violence from recurring.

They were never given the mental health help that they needed, so they were never flagged in the NICS system. No amount of gun control would have prevented them from passing their background check, unless you know of any clairvoyants who can staff a Department of Pre-Crime.

Ironically, if they were given the help they needed, they probably would have never felt the need to purchase their guns (or any other weapons) in the first place, due to their paranoid delusions.

There are measures that we can take, that other Western nations have already taken, such as psychological interviews for firearms licensing that would have prevented this horror.

Do you think Loughner or Cho would have lasted 5 minutes in such an interview?
