I had my Sunday afternoon call with my parents

today. They're both 87, and tend to vote Republican. However, they voted for Obama in 2008, because they didn't care for McCain. Today, they asked me what I though about Newt Gingrich winning that South Carolina primary. I said that I didn't think much of Gingrich at all. I sort of hedge my bets a little with my parents. Politics isn't really a topic of conversation in my family very often.

Well, my father said that he thought Newt shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the White House, and that anybody who cheated on two wives, then married the person he was cheating with shouldn't get elected to any office. I asked him what he thought of Mitt Romney, and he said he didn't think much of him, either, and that he'd be voting for Obama again, since he didn't talk out of the corner of his mouth like most politicians.

I guess there's hope for my old Republican dad. He voted against Bush, too, in 2004. Called him a "chicken hawk." Ha!

He always ends up voting for the democrat. He claims he is a moderate but then I listen to his views on stuff and tell him he's not a "moderate" he's actually a progressive but doesn't know nor does he know to call himself that. He endorses single-payer health care and government spending to reclaim and stimulate the economy. It because the mainstream media is so screwed up that he doesn't realize that he isn't a moderate but rather a progressive. (He's 80)

while they visit doctors 3-4 times a week using their Medicare and visiting friends in the waiting room.

A $20 co-pay would fix that.

4. Fantastic! That is why I think any one of these nominees would suffice. Newt may be the best

have recently voted for Democrats for President! Right on!
Your dad correctly nailed Dimson as a chicken hawk.
Maybe your parents aren't actually Republicans anymore!

The shock might kill them.

My dad was a B-17 pilot in WWII. He recognized Bush for what he was right away.

Lots of B-17s never came back and were shot down.
He has seen war as "up close and personal" as it gets. He probably lost good friends in air battles.
He would recognize the bullshit, cowardice and phoniness of "bush the lesser" easily.
