Camp Mystic as a "Christian" Camp

Lest anybody get the wrong impression about that. My ex (we're still on good terms) was a Mystic camper and later a counselor. She's a devout Catholic, but also progressive and pro choice. One of her fellow counselors and still a close friend is lesbian. Mystic offers devotional services for those who wish to participate but it's not in your face. Campers of all creeds and no creed are welcome. My ex considers those times among the fondest memories of her life and happily recommends Mystic to anyone looking for a summer camp experience. She wouldn't do that if it were some kind of fundamentalist enclave.

This classmate is a hard core Democrat who dragged my middle child into some fun protests during high school. They protested in front of G.H.W. Bush's church on a number of occasions

Words without works is like painting those sepulchres...sounds really righteous until you get close enough to smell the corruption and rot.

Tell me you know the Beatitudes, or show me.
Talk is cheap and easy, works are hard.

(verses 31-46) that Jesus's teachings there have made it hard to overcome the lies and heresies of Christian Nationalists and others on the Christian Right. Their voices are loud and they seek the limelight, using shocking claims about who Jesus is/was.

Several scriptures say we should be humble, not proud or boasting, and we shouldn't pray in public for attention but do our praying in secret.

We are not good at seeking attention for ourselves. Makes it hard to counter the many ways they defame Christ.

pops up, I’m out of there Biggest problem is with Catholics and fundies.
I find a few interesting, Friends Church, Redletterbible. Org and some Unitarians. Even some Methodist churches.
I lean toward Eastern Philosophy for actual practice. I lower my blood pressure and anxiety with the a certain Buddhist mediation that I like.
