"Well, Republicans want to protect the rights and freedoms of people who believe in the exact same thing as they do. And Democrats want to protect the rights and freedoms of everyone."
"Oh, well I want to be a Democrat then"
"You all ready are, sweetie, you already are"
The above is a conversation I had with my 7 year old daughter over the weekend.

I asked who he was voting for and he said "Johnson."
I asked why, and dad, who had been a master heavy equipment mechanic for years, said "Son, if you get a paycheck from another man, you'd damned well better vote for Democrats. The rich can take care of themselves."

(4,741 posts)I asked my father the same question and received almost the same exact answer. It still baffles me that so many working class people vote for the Pukes. Talk about being dumb and voting against your own self-interest. My father saw this coming in 1980 when Rayguns was elected. He couldn't understand why anyone would vote for a lousy Grade B actor who informed on his peers during the McCarthy years.

His related explanation (via Will Rogers?) of the trickle-down theory: "If you feed the horse enough oats, some will pass through to the road for the sparrows."
