Traveling in Greece this March? Independence Day on March 25th will fill the streets with parades and celebrations, both secular and sacred. In Athens, military parades for Independence Day will vie with Feast of the Annunciation church celebrations and anti-war demonstrations, keeping the streets both busy and sometimes blocked.

In 1821, Greeks vigorously rose up against the oppressive Ottoman Empire which had occupied Greece for nearly four hundred years...

It's called the Zubrin-Gingrich Prize Program and is associated with Robert Zubrin's Mars Direct plan. Haven't you read The Case for Mars? It's genius. This comment by Newt was the single best moment in any presidential debate in years. All he needed to add was support for the Open Fuel Standard Act, and all the idiots on stage would have been seen for what they are. "No-balls Obama" wouldn't stand much chance against an ambitious opponent like that. Obama might be better in some aspects, but the man has no vision. It's all this rote rhetoric and middling compromise. The man is boring. At least Newt brought up his desire to get rid of subsidies and the obscure inter-competition by the various lobbies who support them. From Obama you’d just get this smile and off-handed comment like he was too good to even discuss the matter.

During the 1999-2000 campaign, Republicans engaged in just three primary debates.

In 2004, Democrats staged just two primary debates, none before the first vote in Iowa.

What has happened in the last two cycles is way way way beyond the "normal range" by any measure.
