The vote will be a lot closer than it was in the Senate, but not a cliff hanger. There will be significantly more Democratic votes for it than Republican votes. It will not get a majority pf Republicans in favor and about a fourth of Democrats will oppose it. Between a third and two fifths of Republicans will back it.

It would be nice if we see the beginning of a drift towards the center, in that party.

I think they will pass it. The principal function of this bill is to kick the fiscal can down the road. It does at least allow the IRS to tell employers what withholding tables to use, etc.

Letting this go on would be pure chaos and confusion.

. . . because of their failure to gather a majority of republican votes (Hastert Rule).

The Devil is in the details, but the Congresscritters will all be able to say they did something to avert a Thelma and Louise ending.

As accurate as crystal ball.

I predict they'll pass it without the 75 total wackos.

14. The GOP will become true progressive and vote against this very bad act

This said, I dont hold too much hope they will become reasonable and push the act without amendment that will make it worse. It would mean that Boehner shows leadership. Not exactly his style.

15. They will make completely unacceptable amendments, pass it and send it back to the Senate

That way they can blame the Senate if the Senate doesn't play that game.

There will be enough GOP support from names we don't hear much and it will pass. Then, on Jan. 3, the new Congress is seated. After some initial maneuvering, etc., we'll begin to find out what the Obama victory in November is really going to mean. Will Boehner survive as speaker? Will he end up being replaced by Cantor? The House is going to be the key to the next two years, but President Obama has a much stronger position than before, and Grover Norquist's and the Tea Party's strength have faded somewhat. I do not think the Republican House caucus is as solid a voice as it has been.
