Cynic alert: did McConnell get WH promise to lay off in 2014?

Don't really think Biden would make a promise to stay out of the 2014 race in Ky, but pretty obvious that Mitch has an eye on the next election.

Continuing to be a full on obstructionist could hurt in the general against a mainstream Dem in Ky. Think Biden was brought in to make the deal for more reasons than his Senate career and relationship with the Turtle.

Boehner got to negotiate directly with the President, so there was no way Mitch was going to go one-on-one with Harry Reid. His problem is the venom he had generated with Obama and how it would look in a primary fight to swallow that in a direct negotiation. Think Mitch felt that working with Biden would let him negotiate and save face at the same time.

Bottom line: IMO, the WH didn't make any deals for 2014, but the VP probably reminded his old friend of how hard they would come after him if he screwed up the cliff deal.

It's insane to think Ashley could beat Mitch, and Rand is more dangerous and easier to defeat assuming she is not like Affleck and Damon and all mouth with no substance like Affleck just did to the people of Mass.

What you say makes sense, Rand has not been there long enough to point at what he's done for the state.

My point was that McConnell has other priorities than the welfare of the nation.
