Senate Democrats will reject House changes to tax bill, aides say
By Alexander Bolton - 01/01/13 03:10 PM ET

Senate Democratic leaders say they will reject any House effort to amend a fiscal cliff deal that passed the upper chamber with overwhelming support on New Year’s Day.

“The House Republicans have two choices: cut their losses and pass the deal now, or else put up a fight they cannot win and pass the same deal a few days now after being further humiliated,” said a Senate Democratic leadership aide.

Another senior Democratic aide said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will not reconsider the bill, which passed by a vote of 89 to 8.

“We’re done,” said the aide.

That would probably be enough to keep it from getting through the House. There have to be at least a few Republicans in the House that would see the futility of supporting something that probably can't pass the House and would be dead-on-arrival in the Senate.

Could it be that some of the Republican senators are getting tired of these teabagger games in the House?

No ulterior motive here I'm sure...He wouldn't be trying to tie a "bad bill" to the Orange Man, now would he?

"Eric Cantor (R-Va.), the influential House majority leader, emerged from a two-hour meeting with GOP colleagues and said he opposes the Senate bill, which would let income taxes rise sharply on the rich. Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said Cantor “forcefully” expressed his concerns during the closed -door session, during which other GOP members expressed grave doubts about the agreement." (WaPo)

about while watching Roots and such things ...

You have people who face the whip every day ... yes, it hurts like hell, and those often whipped mostly scream in pain.

BUT, if you want to hear really terrified screams ... you put the person who has always been on the handle end of the whip, and have NEVER had it happen to them, (especially if they gave the order, never actually touching the whip) ... then you get some really astonishing screams.

The screams of terror from the wealthy (about tax hikes) remind me of those facing the whip for the very first time after years of ordering the whipping ...

time to dive.

Democrats have a mandate. They don't have to negotiate with Republicans. Show them how serious we are with "we don't have to negotiate with you, since you have no intention of ever negotiating."

(being that I have been for the "fiscal cliff".)

89 to 8 is something else entirely. That is a consensus. I'm impressed.
