Listening to congresspeople asking for help and nothing being done. WHY?

(23,864 posts)...it appears like, anyway. That he agreed to bring it to a vote and either changed his mind or it's not on the roster or whatever.

(23,864 posts)...together. It looks like Boehner might have just cut and left, physically. I know that sounds odd, by Charlie Rangel and another guy seemed to indicate just that.
Not allowing it for a vote. Both Republicans AND Democrats are begging Boehner to reconsider but, again, Rangel apparently indicated the Boehner just left.
Anyone with more clarity on this? What a fucking mess.

(14,725 posts)It looked like I was in a third world country, but the people who came to help were from all areas of society. We helped each other. What is wrong with our congress.

(24,721 posts)so I didn't know until the next day how surreal the situation had become in N.O. Betsy, in 1965, had been the last hurricane to affect N.O. so devastatingly, & because its aftermath was so capably & efficiently handled, I couldn't have been more shocked at the third-world way the government was responding to Katrina. Only Rod Serling could write a script so surreal as what we saw from the Republican-led government.
The Republicans are playing politics, again, at the expense of disaster victims, many who lost their homes. Why else would Boehner not allow the disaster recovery bill to have a vote? A reminder, also, that the Koch brothers didn't want the Sandy victims to get aid from Congress.

Wow. Hoyer just came to the floor, saying he hears there will be no more votes this Congress, killing Sandy relief bill. He is angry.

Pretty sure we'll hear again about House blocking the Sandy relief vote in '14 races against the remaining NY/NJ R's...

(35,300 posts)One part is for immediate (or nearly immediate) aid. The number bandied about was $27 or $28 billion. This was pretty much assured of passage.
The other part would be for longer-term infrastructure. Including at least some projects nowhere near the Eastern seaboard. It was the larger of the two pieces. This would be a problem in the House.
But the requirement was to pass the bill as written, intact with both halves, or not at all.
They can resume talking about it Thursday, I guess. The two days won't make much of a difference.

(7,820 posts)For infrastructure repair is often part of these types of relief bills. The *only* thing unusual about Sandy is it hit Blue States. If these had been Red States, money would have been allocated immediately. This is political, and it's wrong.
