Whoops! My headline isn't accurate. Grover Norquist didn't say that Obama did not raise taxes. Grover Norquist said that Republicans who voted for the Obama deal didn't vote to raise taxes. Since the bill in question is the bill Obama signed one could deduce from that that Obama and the Democrats didn't raise taxes either, but I'm not sure Norquist's brain work that way.
It's not a tax increase when a Republican does it.
"Wait a second," Andrea Mitchell said. "I mean, we're not living in the 'Alice in Wonderland' world here. There is a tax increase for wealthier Americans. It's literally a tax increase."
Technically, it's not, Norquist said. "What happened yesterday was, all the tax rates went up, and then the Republicans and the Congress together took them down for some people, not for everybody."

(50,151 posts)151 repubs voted in favor of 'raising taxes'. 151 repubs voted against the deal ergo more repubs voted FOR raising taxes, right Grover? The majority of repubs in the House broke your pledge, right Grover?

(50 posts)All I've been hearing from these right wing cretins these past 4 years is that when it comes to the National Debt, the sky is falling. They've been screaming about the debt, the debt, the debt....We gotta do something about the debt.
Well, one option to address the debt and to begin to tackle it head on would be to raise taxes. So going over the so-called "Fiscal Cliff" would be a step in that direction.
But wait. Now that the country was on track to do something about the National Debt, namely raising taxes by going "over the cliff" ...that was a disaster that had to be avoided. Republicans were saying that we can't raise taxes to address the debt. We can't raise taxes AT ALL, ON ANYBODY, they say.
Well how then do you bitch and moan about a National Debt that has reached crisis level, you say, and then refuse to raise taxes on a significant portion of the population THAT HAS THE MONEY to help address the very thing you complain about?
It isn't about the debt at all, is it...
It's about the right wing war on Social Security and Medicare.
