Two teenage girls in Placer County are in legal trouble after they allegedly used a drugged milkshake to knock out one of the girls' parents so they could access the Internet, Rocklin police said.
The teens were booked into Placer County Juvenile Hall on New Year's Eve after the parents, reeling from unexplained hangover symptoms, first took a drug test, then called police, said Lt. Lon Milka, a spokesman for the Rocklin Police Department.
The alleged drugging took place Friday evening at the home of a 15-year-old girl, Milka said. They believe her friend, a 16-year-old from Roseville, provided a prescription sleep aid.
The parents consumed about of quarter of the milkshakes offered by their daughter. The parents quickly fell asleep and were out until 1 a.m., when they experienced the groggy hangover feeling. They went back to sleep, but decided to investigate in the morning.

(10,942 posts)Most teenagers are not psychos, but they do need some freedoms as they grow older. Working out agreements with teenagers as to what is expected of them is difficult, but it is something that the best parents I have seen managed. The girls should have had internet access with limits placed on what they could visit. Plus, when computers are set up access levels can for specific content can be set up and locked with a password.

My guess is the kid was grounded per the parents discretion...as it should be.

(5,756 posts)I read the story and there is one really out of place sentence about "It's unclear whether someone manually shut off wireless Internet access each night at 10 p.m. or it happened automatically." There was nothing earlier in the blog that stated the parents allowed internet access but shut it off at a certain time. Although that out of place sentence would imply they did.
If that's the case then the teens' behavior is even more egregious.
How would people react if they drugged the parents to watch TV past bedtime? Or if they did it to sneak out after curfew? I believe the principle is the same. Parents put limits on kids because they should since they are theoretically more experienced. If it's okay for parents to set a curfew, a bedtime past which a kid cannot watch TV then it's okay for them to do the same with Internet access.
I would like to see more details on this story.
