“Why were you in favor of this?” Mitchell asked Norquist during a Wednesday interview. “This is the first tax increase Republicans have voted for in 20 years.”

“Because, of course, no Republican voted for a tax increase,” the Americans for Tax Reform founder insisted. “What happened was [President Barack] Obama had this Sword of Damocles over the heads of the American people with a $5 trillion tax increase over that next decade that would happen automatically unless the House, Senate and president voted on something.”

Basically, too many of them voted for it for him to try to challenge all of them in primaries. He's perhaps shown how we can help Repugs vote against that pledge of theirs. Trap them like this again, then let them hide from Grover behind the number of R defectors when the vote is cast. Or something. Silly Norqui, trying to put the blame for the whole thing on Obama.

Can I just say here, largely to help myself remember, that I have this terrible problem with confusing Grover Norquist with Newt Gingrich. Terrible, right? My brain just works that way. Apparently on some level my poor little mind finds a GN to be equivalent to an NG.
