I also use a false name and information - like age birth date and town and fictional high school, etc. My friends expect and accept my eccentricities. Heck, I even put fake names as the owner/users of my computer. I am sure there are always more things to do like never buy anything on line. I do buy things from stores like Itunes cards and put in a false name for that.....

That's my rule of thumb. On any site I'm visiting, not just Facebook (where I never even notice ads because I've trained my eye not to go there).

On the rare occasion I do see an ad for something that interests me, I never click on the ad link. I'll open a new window and just go to the airline or store's site itself.
