(26,259 posts)Not to nominate Boehner highlights their extreme disfunction. The odds were, likely, that in lieu of Boehner, Cantor probably would have been their nom. And, that's good for nobody but Cantor and the teaparty.

(42,694 posts)I suspect the explanation is that no one else was nominated/seconded for consideration during the Republican conference meeting that precedes the actual floor vote by the entire House. (I've read that Gohmert nominated Gingrich but no one in the conference seconded his nomination).
