Beautiful pic, just beautiful. It makes me proud to be a woman this day.

Besides, she doesn't need that pathetic big-ass oversized dick substitute to prove how strong and powerful she is. Overcompensating much, boner?

...for all the females in the House. Sad that they aren't ALL Democrats, though. All beautiful, but Tammy Duckworth just stands out, doesn't she? That smile! Too bad they don't have a "Women's Caucus"... where they all vote in unison on the blatant women's issues such as
THE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN'S ACT!, etc., etc., etc. Yes, it is a beautiful picture! Thanks for sharing with us, sheshe2.

*Edited to correct: These are all DEMOCRATIC LADIES OF THE HOUSE! No
Repbulican ladies included... just seen the photo-shoot a while ago on C-Span.

I found this brief, interesting article on the history of women in Congress:
[link:http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/2012/11/in-the-113th-congress---benches-full-of-women.html|
113th Congress Welcomes Benches Full of Women ]

For the first time in history, women and minorities will make up the majority of one party in the House of Representatives. Women's issues have been prominent legislatively and on the campaign trail. One of the most prominent examples is the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which President Obama regularly and proudly cites as the first bill he signed into law. A campaign that included a focus on health issues and women's equity and saw both parties wooing female voters helped bring about the largest demographic shift in the history of our national legislative body.

"There have been surges in minority membership at certain moments in the past -- Reconstruction, for instance," said Beverly Gage of Yale University. "But this year's election is unprecedented both in numbers and in range. We're not talking about new senators and congressmen from a few isolated pockets of society, but something much more widespread. Women and minority politicians have increased access to both new and established networks of power and influence, and that access has begun to pay off in electoral success."

Enjoy your success, Ladies! Best wishes for a better United States.

until it's at least 50/50, preferably more. I'm old enough to remember other times when we got excited about more women in Congress, but it seems to me like it's taking a very long time to make greater strides. Remember the "Year of the Woman"? We thought the numbers were going to increase dramatically then, too, but they didn't.

Guess I'm getting older and more impatient.

Now, How will they vote?

If all we get are men in skirts from a voting perspective, then what was the point.

These women have fought to get there and make a difference. Now they have to prove that it makes a difference that they are there.

I'm cynical. I'm not sure gender matters once the lobby money starts floating around.

... when she was coming back in to Portland Friday evening, saying then that she was surprised that she was going to be able to get home for Christmas then with all of the last minute "dealing" then, and I was on my way to L.A. (where I was kept at the airport to just past the end of the "end of the world" day by Delta Airlines keeping my Alaska flight from pulling in to the gate for well over an hour).

Hoping that these women can be a big part along with other new progressives like Alan Grayson in fighting off the corporatist/tea party/Republican infestation in the House this coming term.. I have a lot more confidence in Ms. Bonamici whose been far more accessible to us than our former rep David Wu.

I generally avoid political conclusions based on gender or race.
In and of itself, "diversity" as a goal is over-hyped, and guarantees nothing.
After all, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Ann Coulter, and Michele Bachmann are women.

....But the above photo filled me with pride and optimism.
Go Democrats!

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their rhetoric, promises, or excuses.
