Ed Rendell: Obama cutting Social Security would be like Lincoln freeing the slaves

This is beyond horrible.

RENDELL: Give the President credit, he said he would consider chained CPI, he said back in 2011 that he would raise the Medicare age, with carveouts. [...] Those are things he’s going to have to deliver. [...] He has to lead. And boy I’d love the whole Congress, this new Congress and the President, they should all go see a screening of Lincoln together, because Abraham Lincoln led on the 13th amendment when everybody on both sides told him he was crazy.

He works for a group of corporate heads in "Fix the Debt." I loathe that he is a go to for commentary from the left on MSNBC.

...cutting social security benefits is like freeing the slaves?

WTF is he talking about...freeing the slaves was a good thing, cutting people's social security could lead to people dying from lack of food, shelter, and health care...but to Rendell this is a good thing!!!!

I've never seen anyone in more need of a baseball bat to the head then Rendell...but I'm sure the candidate list will grow over the next few months!

Social security keeps the elderly from abject poverty...like slavery.

Cutting social security would be like Obama instituting Jim Crow laws for the elderly.

Just the conservatives and racists told him he was crazy. The progressives (for example, Thaddeus Stevens, brilliantly played by Tommy Lee Jones) urged him to push for the 13th Amendment. The progressives were right then, and they are right now. Cutting Medicare benefits is dead wrong on so many levels. Fuck you, Ed Rendell.

I want a party that will STAND UP for Working Americans."

gloriously extolling the virtues of cutting/tweaking/fixing/extending Social Security/Medicare.

NONE of these people will EVER truly need either of those entitlements.

I call them entitlements because they ARE entitlements..not a "charitable gesture" or a Federal bon mot to lazy folks".

They are an entitlement we earned by a lifetime of labor (mostly underpaid & overworked), and are but two of the ever-dwindling perks of being a citizen of this nation.
