(53,998 posts)And you're not alone in your opinions. A few months ago Foreign Policy magazine had an article on the 10 events of the 20-aughts that were bigger deals than 9-11. Number one on that list was America's overreaction to 9-11. To paraphrase a certain obscene little chimpanzee, "Terrorists may shake the foundations of our buildings, but only we can destroy the foundations of our democracy."
George Bush and the criminal gang we used to call BushCo around here were the ones who started that destruction by lying us into a war and scaring many of us into hating the Rule of Law. And of course his vanity war in Iraq killed 4000 more Americans and 200,000 more Iraqis than al-Qaeda ever did.
Bucky
(53,998 posts)But the smirky little obscene chimpanzee didn't hide his crimes; he corrupted the nation into supporting them as if torture and vanity wars were all part of the American Dreams. He's not like other bad presidents. Other war mongers we endured, survived, and moved on from. The core dysfunction in US politics is the direct legacy of the moral decay he and his entourage brought into our public affairs. He didn't make America worse; he made Americans worse as a people.
Yes, he still pisses me off.
