Child, 12, dies after accidental shooting

BRECKENRIDGE, Mo. —A 12-year-old child died Saturday after suffering a gunshot wound while mishandling a handgun in Breckenridge, Mo., Friday evening, deputies said.

Caldwell County deputies said they were called to a home on West Maple Street about 8:45 p.m. and found the injured child.

The victim was flown to a Kansas City-area hospital and was pronounced dead there.

Investigators said the case is ongoing. They have not released the victim's name or whether charges may be filed in the case.

guns ought to be restricted.

But are all of the deaths REALLY worth it? Could maybe we do without all the goddam guns so that more children will live to grow up?

but about 30 people a day die from gunshots.

I sincerely wish that for a week or two somehow the ONLY people to get killed by guns would be those who are the gun apologists, the ones who think that the current levels of gun carelessness, I mean ownership, is just fine.

12. There was a shooting outside a school this week.

It was at dismissal time. I used to work there so I put a message up on Facebook saying I was thinking of my friends there and hoped they were all okay. One of my other FB friends who is a gun fan immediately replied that the media was making a big deal out of it, they posted the wrong address, the shooting wasn't really that close to the school. So it was really not that bad.

I was floored. My concern for kids and staff who were understandably freaked out - they had to lock down the school and there were kids ON THE PLAYGROUND during this shooting - was considered too dramatic?

I am having a really hard time not despising these gun nuts.

2. I waited until my kids were 8 and 10 before introducing

them to the pistol at the range this past summer.


Where there are firearms in the home, any 12yo should have went through firearm safety training already. Remember folks either keep them locked up or on your person.

If you have a pool you teach children pool safety.
Gun safety should be taught if you have a gun.
Both are attractive nuisances.

8. I remember the first time my son fell into the pool

by the time he was coming back up I was there and he grabbed my hand. I yanked his 3yo butt out of the pool (It was early april and I was cleaning it) he said "Dad you were right, the pool will kill you."

That's the problem, accidents happen and with a firearm second chances aren't as common. Keep it locked up if you're not carrying it. But that's just me, I'm pretty protective of my children.

18. Accidents happen. There was a boy older than your children

at a gun show, surrounded by helpful adults, who accidentally killed himself.

I wouldn't be over confident if I were you. Going through firearm safety training doesn't provide any guarantees.

5. Is there a place a woman and/or man with children can go to escape the battering by propaganda of..

the gun culture, the NRA, the religions that not only condone guns but bless them
at the alter, when this mind set surrounds their very existence?

Is there a shelter a parent(s) can take children to when they leave a
gun cultured family or family member?
A child in school is TOLD to not be afraid and call the police if they see illegal drugs
being used at their home.
Can we tell these same children to call the police when they see a loaded handgun
laying on a footstool in the living room of a home and there are little ones running
around that house?

Can we start NOW and do PSAs telling young ones that it is OK to grow up in a house with NO GUNS.
