3. We had a campfire of gentle people!

Our annual NY Eve bonfire.

I can't say everyone voted for our President, but I feel the people were largely gentle.

I live in a fairly remote mountain valley. Bonfirers were mostly from the neighborhood. We had a sled run (old people on sleds are really funny. In our younger day we had lots of families from town - up to 50 sometimes! Got kind of crazy. Like the night my daughter's hair caught on fire for a moment. Seems the tiki torch overflowed onto the straw bale strategically set up at the bottom of the sled run... but I digress...).

The tiki torches, the fireworks at midnight (or as late as most of us can stay up) in the lovely winter night all make for a beautiful, gentle evening. Great way to start the new year.

Thanks for this, babsis.

I'm having one of those "boo hoo, my ex is gone (for good reason--abusive alkies may start out charming and like your knight in shining armor, but once that's done, it's done.), now I'm too old to find someone im actually attracted to......."

Etc. Dammit. Lousy depression.

Don't cross that off your list of possibilities. Anything can happen!

My 86-year old aunt, still living in her home, has quite the lineup of suitors!

And here's a story a friend told me yesterday:

She moved to Boston, Cambridge specifically. As she walked through Cambridge, she so wanted to live there but it was out of the question on her budget. She saw the perfect little place and stopped to talk to the landlord, who was outside sweeping the sidewalk. He told her the place was already rented and that he just hadn't taken the sign down. He showed it to her anyway, and it was just as charming inside as it was outside.

She told the landlord to call her if things didn't work out. Meanwhile, she moved three times in only a short period of time.

Three months later she received a phone call. The tenant who rented it hadn't worked out and this landlord tracked my friend down through three landlords!

She was able to rent the place and it worked within her budget. She was very happy there...for years!

So....it could happen to you, absolutely, yes it can.

And virtual vegetarian chili... and cider. With cinnamon, cloves, orange slices. Maybe some rum.

Or cold beer. And ice tea.....LoLoL, plenty of choices for a long evening of cozy chat around the fire.

I can say:

Kumbaya is spelled right.
You may care if you're a WIT, but what you claim not to give is a WHIT.

I just sent it to a friend of mine who's a big fan of Garrison, as am I. We attended one of his performances together a few years ago. Loved it. Long may he brighten our world with his presence!

Thanks too for introducing me to Seniors for a Democratic Society. I'm there!

Blessings.
