On Sunday’s Up w/ Chris Hayes, we’ll discuss the apparent lack of diversity among President Obama’s recent cabinet appointments. This week, President Obama announced three cabinet appointments, all of whom were white men. Then we’ll focus in on one of those appointments in particular. This week, President Obama nominated his trusted counter-terrorism adviser, John Brennan, to head the CIA. Brennan’s name was last floated as a possible CIA director in 2008, when his full-throated defense of the Bush-era policies of rendition and enhanced interrogation techniques short of waterboarding — which he says is torture — prompted widespread outrage. What’s changed to make Brennan’s nomination so much more acceptable this time around?

There hasn’t been much accountability for the sorts of practices Brennan and others advocated, just as there’s been little accountability for fraud on Wall Street and dysfunction in our political system. But there is at least one area of American life where wrongdoing and unethical behavior have been widely and strongly condemned: professional sports. We’ll look at the latest developments in the crackdown on the use of performance enhancing drugs in both baseball and cycling. Why has there been so much accountability in sports, and so little elsewhere?
