Jimmy Savile abused children across six decades at 14 hospitals including Great Ormond Street and a children's hospice, according to a police report. He also carried out 14 alleged assaults at schools.

Commander Peter Spindler of the Metropolitan police said Savile used his fame and celebrity status to "hide in plain sight", adding that he had "groomed the nation".

The report into his activities reveals his offending spans from 1955-2009. Most of his victims were children – 73% – and he committed most of the offences when he was aged between 40 and 50.

Spindler said the report "paints a stark picture emphasising the tragic consequences of when vulnerability and power collide. His offending footprint was vast, predatory and opportunistic".

In early 2012, several newspapers reported that BBC's Newsnight had investigated allegations of sexual abuse immediately after Savile's death, but the report was not broadcast.[94]
On 28 September 2012, almost a year after his death, ITV1 said it would broadcast a documentary, Exposure: The Other Side of Jimmy Savile,[11] with claims by up to 10 women, including one aged under 14 at the time, that they had been sexually molested or raped by Savile during the 1960s and 1970s.[95] The announcement attracted national attention, and more reports and claims of abuse against him accumulated. The documentary was broadcast on 3 October 2012. The next day, the Metropolitan Police said the Child Abuse Investigation Command would assess the allegations.[96]

By 19 October 2012, police were pursuing 400 lines of inquiry based on testimony from 200 witnesses via 14 police forces across the UK. They described the alleged abuse as "on an unprecedented scale", and the number of potential victims as "staggering".[97] Investigations, codenamed Operation Yewtree, were opened to identify criminal conduct related to Savile's activities by the Metropolitan Police and the Crown Prosecution Service into why a prosecution had been dropped as unlikely to succeed in 2009.[14][15] By 25 October police reported the number of possible victims was approaching 300.[12]

On 12 November 2012, the Metropolitan Police announced the scale of sexual allegations reported against Savile was "unprecedented" in Britain: a total of 450 alleged victims had contacted the police in the ten weeks since the investigation was launched. Officers have recorded 199 crimes in 17 police force areas in which Savile was a suspect, among them 31 allegations of rape in seven force areas.[98] Analysis of the report showed 82% of those who came forward to report abuse were female and 80% were children or young people at the time of the incidents.[99]

The developing scandal led to inquiries into practices at the BBC and the National Health Service. It was alleged that rumours of Savile's activities had circulated at the BBC in the 1960s and 1970s, but no action had been taken. Savile was trusted with keys and unsupervised access to patients including the mentally and physically disabled at some hospitals.[100][101] The Director-General of the BBC, George Entwistle, apologised for what had happened, and on 16 October 2012 appointed former High Court judge Dame Janet Smith to review the culture and practices of the BBC during the time Savile worked there,[102] and Nick Pollard, a former Sky News executive, was appointed to look at why the Newsnight investigation into Savile's activities was dropped shortly before transmission in December 2011.[102]

though the number of complaints then would have, you'd think, have got a prosecution to start. There were many rumours in the BBC and entertainment industry before that, though; for instance, the chairman of Children In Need, the BBC's annual charity drive, said he had heard rumours about Savile, and so wouldn't let Savile take any part in it, over 10 years ago. But so many people, in the BBC, in hospitals, and in prisons, either didn't want to believe it, or thought that they'd get trouble if they couldn't prove it, so never told the police, or started an investigation themselves.

I've been reading all about this this weekend and the story chills you to the core. He was CLOSE friends with the entire upper crust and leading politicians.

It was reported before and totally ignored to protect the other people involved.

Now that Savile is dead, the names of the most corrupt he was procuring kids for will never be known but they're going after the second fiddle pedos like Gary Glitter and Freddie Star. Not a single politician or royal will be embroiled now since he can't name names.

He did it all in the open too, such was his protection and said the creepiest things in talk shows about it which are better understood in retrospect now. One of the most sickening "funny" interviews is about taking a young girl to the royal palace to meet one of the royals in private.

There was one girl he abused that he even drove to the police station afterwards and he told them not to even dare think of doing anything about it because he'd have their head on a pike. Of course they didn't. Some of his victims were as young as 8. He'd take them to "parties" where everything was all very "posh" with the highest echelons of society present.

He did it all out in the open, to included on TV, making his sick jokes that you know his other pedo friends were laughing over.

They good and waited until he took his secrets to the grave. This is the most sickening story of the year.

This is very very sick stuff. He was given keys to hospital wards, to schools and even rooms on the premises. He was allowed to remove young patients and students and take them for "outings" and no one would say shit. When some students complained, they were punished. He molested young women recovering from surgery in the hospitals too.

This wasn't one bad apple gone bad. This was a huge pedophile ring allowed to operate with impunity because of who its clientele was.

Jimmy Savile victim: Police 'dissuaded' victim from pursuing case


Detectives "dissuaded" a woman who told them she had been sexually abused by Jimmy Savile in Sussex from pursuing her allegation, a report has revealed.

The victim said an officer told her Savile had money, the best lawyers and would make mincemeat of her in court.

The disclosure is part of a review of the decision not to prosecute Savile in 2009 after he was investigated by both Sussex and Surrey police.

Giving Victims a Voice revealed Savile was a "predatory sex offender" against whom 214 crimes were recorded across 28 police force areas.

Jimmy Savile gleefully informed the prime minister about "my girl patients" after meeting her at a Downing Street fund-raising ceremony where he sought advice on charities' tax deductions.

A letter preserved in Downing Street's records sheds fresh light on the extraordinary access the now disgraced BBC television presenter enjoyed at the height of his popularity.

In the letter sent to Margaret Thatcher during her first year in office, Savile displayed all his brazen charms.
