http://www.adn.com/2013/01/13/2751115/more-rain-wind-and-warm-temps.htmlUpdate, 3:20 p.m. Sunday:
Its going to continue to rain pretty much all night, National Weather Service meteorologist Shaun Baines said Sunday afternoon.
By early Monday, expect to hear howling winds.
We are expecting wind to come into all of Anchorage as well, late tonight and into tomorrow morning, and thats going to really warm things up, he said.
Forecasters arent predicting huge gusts, just widespread winds of 35 mph to 40 mph, maybe slightly higher, he said. The winds shouldnt be severe enough to cause major power outages, though, he said.
Temperatures should hit the upper 40s and into the 50s by Monday, causing more snow to melt, he said.

According to the National Weather Service, today's normal high in Anchorage is 21 degrees, and the old record is 42.

(10,745 posts)Well, here in the D/FW area, we've been largely around average so far this month, so I guess we've been lucky.....(of course, that could change any day, for all I know.)...but yeah.

(13,685 posts)If they hadn't scared everyone by claiming that weather systems would become highly variable then we would have done something to stabilize our impacts years ago.
Or at least the governments would have listened to them if they hadn't been so strident on their warnings. Right, Joe?

(13,685 posts)I will stop if you will. It makes no sense to blame a few for this global problem. So, you can either stop or get more reaction. I am tired of reading it from just one poster here, again and again and again. Got that?

(10,745 posts)Of course, to be honest with you, the records only go back to 1981 or so a higher temperature could have occurred before then.....IDK, maybe I'm reading too much into it.
Hope you guys are doing okay up there, in any case.

(46,436 posts)and this type of weather isn't all that unusual here in the winter. We call it the Pineapple Express.

I've lived here since 1975 and have seen about every weather phenomenon you could imagine. "Not normal" is the new normal.

(9,433 posts)summer. It seemed to be either rainy and/or windy every weekend.
I came home to Portland in August to a near record number of dry days and we were far below average in precipitation. We ended the year 4th wettest. It rained a lot Oct-Dec. Now it's foggy and cold with no rain in sight....The weather is wacked!

(46,436 posts)And November and the first three weeks of December were bitterly cold with very little snow. Since Christmas, though, it's been pretty warm with two of these above freezing episodes. I hope there's snow in time for the Iditarod.
