(1,474 posts)It only makes you aware of how fucked you really are.
Maybe someday, when enough people become aware of what's going on, i.e. when hell freezes over, we all will be free from the criminals that run the World.
In the meantime, bend over and make the best of it.

(39,909 posts)Who knows what would have happened without:
Homeland Security,
Holder and the Pro-Suppression Justice Department,
the militarization and national co-ordination of local police
the threats posed by the NDAA,
support for the Wall Street criminals from BOTH dominant political parties...
...who knows WHAT would have happened,
or what could happen next year.
Keep the Tar HOT,

Response to post #4
by bvar22:
THAT is what Wall Street saw when they looked out their windows.
That sentiment is one step away from Torches & Pitchforks.
Do you need any further explanation?
Any more embarrassing questions?

It isn't the Greedy Bankers that we need to influence.
Those sociopaths are beyond salvation.
We NEED to worry THESE people.
...and the good news is that they HAVE noticed,
but aren't exactly worried yet.
So we have more work to do.
You can help spread the word,
or keep posting cartoon smilies.
The choice is yours.
I've already made my choice.
You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their rhetoric, promises, or excuses.

(28,784 posts)they don't pay the salaries of the professors or researchers who do the work. they pay honorariums, if any, to the people who compose the "peers" who review.
they pay a little bit to editors (very little) and they charge libraries outrageous fees.
fuck the journals.
fuck google, too, for getting university libraries to scan books For FREE AND THEN CHARGE PEOPLE to access them.
Swartz was railroaded b/c some fat ass in a three piece suit wanted the JD to make a lesson out of him.

(28,784 posts)Research librarians have worked with professors and scientists, drs, etc. to create a free journal service with peer review in order to simply stop publishing with research journals that charge libraries so much to access.
Libraries already operate under constrained budgets. This extortion of a captive market (because any good university needs to have current research available) prevents libraries from acquiring other needed and useful material for students.

(640 posts)Occupy Wall Street again.....
. Pick a CEO we can start with.
. Make the scum the example...
. He will be the purpose of a occupy movement.
. Don't bring him/her to justice now...
. time will take care of it.
. Just inform the population....
. of that injustice.
. THIS WILL WORK !!
. They will slowly tumble !!
I am a retired teacher. I sub now. When I walk into a classroom of bad kids, I pick a kid who calls attention to himself....I give him a three times warning or your out...be patient...punish him if you have to...then it will be easier to handle the others. You have to back up your words or they will step on you. You have to call them out on their misbehavior and that is what this occupy movement will do.

(5,178 posts)They are called investors. While Arron has to rely on his own funds. Wall St gets enough popular support to avoid charges of laundering money for drug cartels and doing business with Iran. It makes it hard to imagine just what a Wall St firm would have to do to suffer as much as a citizen.
One thing is for sure. As long as they have so many fervent supporters, we will never know.

(17,301 posts)He had to spend his life's savings defending himself against an overzealous prosecutor. Even the foundation where he downloaded the educational documents from did NOT want to press charges. Yet the State AG wanted to make an example out of Aaron and proceeded with prosecution anyway. Aaron's parents were trying to get a second mortgage to help pay his legal fees. With all his money tied up in defending himself from spurious charges he could not get the medical care and attention he needed to deal with his depression.
And I think the Prosecutor knew it.

(459 posts)that is if the "right" doesn't install re writers of history, this time we are living in will be looked upon as the most corrupt time in American history. A time where banks were given a free run to foreclose on people even when 100% of banks are proven fraudulent. Congressman and senators are paid off by corporations to do their bidding openly. The worst is even the president of the United states has rolled over to banks and corporations and crashing peoples lively hoods is the norm.

Then Congress would've have sent him a big fat restructuring check which he could deposit in an overseas account and then turn around and sue the US government for the unfairness inherent in them sending him a big fat check.

I did not know Aaron Swartz, unless you count having copies of a person's entire digital life on your forensics server as knowing him. I did once meet his father, an intelligent and dedicated man who was clearly pouring his life into defending his son. My deepest condolences go out to him and the rest of Aaron's family during what must be the hardest time of their lives.
