Bill would block gun laws, allow arrest of federal agents

More rational and civil discourse from a Tennessee lawmaker:
Apparently my state legislators want to one up the crazy on states like Texas and Florida

Bill Would Block Gun Laws, Allow Arrest of Federal Agents

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013, by Bridgit Bowden

State Representative Joe Carr
A state lawmaker has introduced measures to block any new federal gun laws. Rutherford County Republican Joe Carr even went as far as to say any federal officers would be arrested if they tried to enforce such laws.
Carr’s bill would allow federal officers to be charged with a misdemeanor for carrying out laws passed by congress and executive orders from the President.
In a brief press conference Carr said although he expects support for the bill, he also anticipates legal hurdles.
“I am saying, we are going to discover whether or not it’s legal. I would not have file the bill if I didn’t think it would pass and I wouldn’t have filed a bill if I didn’t think we’d have a good chance in a court of law.”
Carr says the legislation is based a Wyoming proposal. Lawmakers in Missouri, South Carolina, and Texas have filed similar bills.
Fellow Republicans are dubious Rep. Carr’s gun proposal could become law. Rep. Jeremy Faison of East Tennessee calls it a waste of time.
“Let’s just be sensible. Nobody is going to arrest a federal agent. I mean, come on. Let’s deal in the land of reality.”
Faison has his own gun legislation, but he says it will be more narrowly tailored to block new federal laws regarding assault weapons and extended magazines.

State legalizes pot, and I'm all for the state law superceeding the federal law. I would like to see DEA agents getting arrested for going after legal dispensaries, their landlords, tennants, employees, etc...

I'm sitting upon a strange fence indeed.

The final say depending on their own stance on the individual laws in question.

If states get to veto federal laws, then the situation is totally unworkable.

A few more states legalizing marijuana will probably produce enough pressure to change things.

Rep Joe Carr, if he has even the intelligence to dress himself in the morning, knows that there is absolutely zilch chance a silly ass bill like this is going to become law, even in a place like Tennessee.

So why the hell is he wasting the time of the legislature to make them even look at it? So he can make points with the inbred redneck demographic at the risk of appearing to be a buffoon to everybody else.

And that's the problem. The "everybody else" group will more or less keep their mouth shut. But the dum dums will threaten him with everything from recall to primary opposition to death. And he knows there are some among his constituency who are both stupid and unhinged enough to do it.
