TV Ad Says Gingrich Exaggerates His Ties to Reagan
A new ad on behalf of Mitt Romney pokes fun at Newt Gingrich, and says he is exaggerating his relationship with Ronald Reagan.
Mr. Gingrich frequently links himself to the former president, who is revered by many as the embodiment of modern conservatism even as some Republicans question Mr. Gingrichs conservative credentials.
The new ad asserts that Mr. Reagan, who died in 2004, did not return the love.
From debates, youd think Newt Gingrich was Ronald Reagans vice president, a narrator says as video clips flash by of Mr. Gingrich mentioning Reagans name at various debates. The New York Times has reported that Mr. Gingrich has mentioned Reagans name 55 times in the debates more than all of the other candidates mentions of Reagan combined.
But in his diaries, Reagan mentions Gingrich only once, says the narrator.
