Join the National Day of Service this weekend

I received a phone call a while back from the Obama campaign about participating in a national day of service as part of inauguration activities. I'm volunteering this Sat. It's not too late to sign up to help out somewhere in your community. Time slots can be as short as one hour.

1. I'm participating

by spending part of Saturday at a horse shelter, mucking.

I've been volunteering there every Thursday for about a year & a half. It's one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done.

Not sure how to register the service, or whether I want to.

I just enjoy volunteering. I encourage everyone I know to do it any way they can. It gets me out of myself, and caring about something more. Also, it's a great way to meet people with similar interests.

And let them know you're doing it. It is good PR for the president, which raises his stature a bit in negotiating with Republicans.

5. I had to scroll for a while

to find one that wasn't super-religious within a hundred miles but I found one. This is the first I'd ever heard of AmpleHarvest.

Which has a religious name but isn't religious in practice.
