What a difference from the rigid intolerance promoted by the BSA.
on edit:
I can't believe you're under attack by some for posting this. What would be considered a bane by conservatives is welcomed with open arms by liberals. I read it at face value. If republicans see this graphic as a reason to shun sweet little girls in green at the door selling cookies, it works just as well the other way too.
Because of this kind of petty pile-on I've cut back on my posts. So often people have made me wish I didn't even get out of bed that day.
I don't understand the attacks. Yes, it was probably made as an attack by conservatives but that doesn't mean that the things stated are actually bad. Kind of like how Repub candidates tend to run better ads for their opponents than the opponents themselves. "Joe Democrat was a union leader and supported the right of terrorists to a fair trial"... well gee thanks, that's a much better as FOR Joe Democrat than his own "Joe Democrat wants to reduce wasteful spending and cut taxes" ad!
Fighting a characterization of liberals as liberal only means you're ashamed of being liberal. It shouldn't be something to be ashamed of.

Catholic Bishops Challenge Girl Scouts USA For Conflict With Church Teachings

ZRT2209
(1,357 posts)and also "hypocrite"
lunasun
(21,646 posts)1/4 is a lot of GS
and the group has already modified for catholics according to the article
I am wondering if they won't modify more due to religious demands
.......In other instances, the scouts have modified materials that drew complaints for example, dropping some references to playwright Josefina Lopez because one of her plays, "Simply Maria," was viewed by critics as mocking the Catholic faith....
.......The inquiry coincides with a broader effort by the bishops to analyze church ties with outside groups. Rhoades' committee plans to consult with Girl Scouts leaders and with the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, which has been liaising with the Scouts for two years about various complaints.
The federation's executive director, Bob McCarty, praised the Girl Scouts for willingness to change some program content.
To the Girl Scouts, some of the attacks seem to be a form of guilt by association. Critics contend that Girl Scouts materials shouldn't contain links to groups such as Doctors without Borders, the Sierra Club and Oxfam because they support family planning or emergency contraception.
And although it's a secular organization, the Girl Scouts embrace partnerships with religious groups. Scouts can earn a "My Promise, My Faith" pin for activities linked to their religious beliefs...........
I don't think the leader moms will stand up to the bishops either - also from the link
.......One uneasy Catholic parent is Jody Geenen of West Bend, Wis., a troop leader for the past 14 years as her three daughters now 18, 14 and 12 became Girl Scouts.
She complains about some program materials adopted by the Girl Scouts in recent years. One example she gave: a patch honoring Hispanic labor organizer Dolores Huerta, whose shortcomings in the eyes of some Catholics include a 2007 award from Planned Parenthood.
Geenen hopes the Scouts will change their ways. "I love the Girl Scouts," she said. "But it can't remain the way it is."..........
Their CEO currently stands firm -just hope the GS do not morph into Intolerant Girls

By the way...most of the proceeds go to fund stuff like Girl Scout camps and other council programs that have NOTHING to do with social engineering. Troops actually fund trips with the proceeds they get from their sales.
Christ. I wish these people would get a fucking life, or at least drop out of society and let the rest of us alone to enjoy our Thin Mints.
One kernel of truth in the otherwise swill above: Girl Scouts have always been welcoming of gay, bisexual, and transgendered members, always as far as I can tell, and I was involved as an adult in GS for years. Compare that to other organizations like the Boy Scouts.

(16,232 posts)I wasn't going to buy any, but now I have to. hmmmph.
I was a Girl Scout. Sold the most cookies in my entire district one year. Back when we sold the boxes, not took orders. (Of course they were 50 cents a box back then, larger cookies & larger boxes!)
It's not that I didn't want to support the Girl Scouts, but I don't need to eat a box of cookies, & my son is prediabetic so I keep those types of temptations to as bare a minimum as possible.
But dammitall, if the freaking freaks are going to try and denigrate the Girl Scouts - which by all counts is infinitely superior to the Boy Scouts (yes I said that) - then I reckon I'll just have to take one for the team.
