Benchwarmer-for-Jeebus Tim Tebow has been invited to join a just-launched Vatican crusade for "ethical values" in professional sports. Via Catholic News Service:
The Pontifical Council for Culture is planning to host an international conference on re-instilling values in sports this spring, inviting representatives from top world governing bodies like FIFA (the International Federation of Association Football), the International Cycling Union and the Italian National Olympic Committee.
Msgr. Melchor Sanchez de Toca Alameda, head of the council's "Culture and Sport" section, told Catholic News Service Jan. 16 that pro sports "have become a commodity that is subordinate to the free market and, therefore, to profit."
He said the council hoped its participant line-up would include two high-profile Christian U.S. sports stars: NFL quarterback Tim Tebow of the New York Jets, and NBA basketball player Jeremy Lin of the Houston Rockets.
Instead of sports being an activity that builds important values, respects human dignity and helps shape the whole human person, "it has reduced people to merchandise," he said.

Those morans must not know or maybe care that Tebow and his family are in the Phillipines trying to convert Catholics to their form of evangelical Christianity. They do not recognize Catholicism as a legitimate Christian faith.

In an interesting twist, the Bob Tebow foundation is bringing its message, in large part, to Christians.
The foundations Web site, which provides a link for online donations to support its work, states that its mission is to take the gospel to those who have never heard and plant Bible believing churches where previously there were no churches.
It goes on to say: In a country of 92,000,000, it is estimated that over 65,000,000 Filipinos have never once heard the gospel of Jesus Christ.
But according to the most recent census and other figures, more than 80 percent of Filipinos are Roman Catholic, one of the largest Christian populations in Asia. Another 3 percent are evangelical Christians and 7 percent belong to other Christian sects, with Muslims and smaller groups making up the remainder of the population.
