Man protests with AK-47 outside KC federal courthouse

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —A man with an unloaded AK-47 rifle marched back and forth in front of the Kansas City federal courthouse for about 30 minutes Friday morning.

Stan Nyhart, who resides in Hickory County, said he is upset with President Barack Obama's proposal to ban military-style assault rifles like his.

KMBC's Micheal Mahoney reported that Nyhart was watched closely by police during his protest march at the foot of the courthouse steps.

The police said Nyhart informed them in advance of his protest. Police said his weapon was checked. It was not loaded, and his protest was legal. He drew several stares from people who walked by him.

Was he goose-stepping during his little display?

He broke no laws and was using 2nd amendment rights in addition to his first amendment rights. Regardless of whether or no you agree with the message or his means, his actions are about as democratic/american as it gets.
