In a heavily guarded store just southwest of Houston, twin .50-caliber Ma Deuce machine guns rise up side by side from a mount that could be bolted to the deck of a warship or a truck bed.
The guns can fire about 1,200 rounds a minute and take down an airplane. The price tag reads $75,000.
They are among an arsenal of restricted, or Class 3, weapons, all legal and for sale at Houston Armory, a company that caters to the elite of the gun world and specializes in machine guns, silencers and other weapons required to be registered with the U.S. government.
A few feet away is a fully operational M60 machine gun, similar to the one carried by Rambo through the jungle. There also is a pristine-condition tommy gun modeled like those used in the days of Al Capone.

(17,651 posts)There should be cases of Kleenex at the door - towels for the overly excited.
Put some of them behind some glass and curtains and put quarter (or dollar) machine in the front - if you want a peek insert currency. Wanna touch it, you pay more.
Then again, people collect any and everything according to their own eccentricity and egocentricity. Whatever blows your skirt.
That responsible, law abiding, adults can be trusted with just about anything?

(22,165 posts)... and tell us how these guns are used for hunting .... or "self-defense" (in case they find themselves in a war zone)... or how target shooting with these things is fun
This is absolutely sickening.

(5,417 posts)I've shot full auto once, I got a chance to shoot with a local swat team. It was fun.
There are a lot of full auto guns out there, but new production was banned in 1986, so they are slowly going away. Any guns out there are grandfathered in, and I don't think there have been any problems with the ones in circulation, so I'm fine with leaving the law as it is

(28,854 posts).. because a man with an assault weapon was walking through a nearby neighborhood in camouflage.
Sheesh. And another guy was carrying an assault weapon on his back and another gun around his area, the first supposedly unloaded I believe, saying he just wanted to make sure that everyone was protected and safe. That was in Utah, but I feel certain that it could happen in Texas too. Our lege wants to arm and train teachers, make guns legal on college campuses, and other insanity. One legislator said he considers a firearm necessary to protect his daughters as he drives them to school. Poor kids.
Boy the stoopid rules here.

(28,246 posts)The people who buy these fully-automatic weapons are probably 99% highly vocal government haters. But in order to wade through the process of getting approved to own such guns, a person has to have a child-like faith in the government as well---acquiring a machine gun undoubtedly lands you on every cross-referenced freak list that multiple levels of government maintain, and what bona fide government hater would allow that to happen?
Another thing about those 28,690 Texas machine guns: If history is any guide, they'll probably never be used to harm anybody. The crime rate involving legally-owned, fully-automatic firearms is pretty much zero. So---despite all our Gun Enthusiasts' squealing to the contrary, gun control does work.....
