"Mr Flynt hired a Washington firm of former CIA and FBI officials to help him assess the responses to his ad and confirm their credibility. One of the first investigations surrounded Mr Newt Gingrich, then Speaker of the House.
Mr Flynt began negotiating with several parties, people described as having an association with a prostitution ring, for a series of credit card receipts that showed Mr Gingrich paying for services.
"In the midst of that negotiation, Mr Gingrich resigned suddenly."

(32,080 posts)I was listening to The Thom Hartmann Show this afternoon. Word has it Newt was on the verge of accepting a bribe, but didn't only because he had to resign over other ethics charges. I can't remember what the bribe was supposedly for, but I have a feeling we'll be hearing more about this in the near future.

(14,040 posts)She's making them eat their own. Romney is now the one calling for the vetting of Gingrich. That's a good play any day of the week.

(37,648 posts)would rather see Romney. Maybe because there's more passion about Gingrich, which gets people to the polls, while the Republican base is pretty ho-hum about Mitt.
