I read that somewhere on DU, and it says it all.
"We are not curtailing your rights. We are curtailing your hobby."
Pass it on.

(12,863 posts)Making assault weapons no longer available for purchase is not "punishment" any more than telling a child he can't have the latest monster-style Tonka truck when he has plenty of other Tonka trucks in his fleet of vehicular toys.
Gun "enthiusiasts" need to grow up and out of their obsession with assault rifles, or find a different way to grow a pair.

(30,252 posts)...but you are still telling law-abiding Americans that when they wake up the morning after the ban passes, they are going to have fewer rights and freedoms than they had the previous day.
That's why I have to call bullshit on your premise, even as you try to belittle a right into a "hobby" and so on. I've been involved in Democratic gun activism ever since 2005 (and have tried to be nice about it all along, unlike some of these Teahadist mouth-breathers), and even after Sandy Hook, I see no reason to throw in the towel.

(58,179 posts)You're losing the argument.
Comprehensively.
Bone up on your coping skills. You're going to need them.
In the meantime, whatever you do, please don't go fuck yourself. It would be a bitter shame if you went and fucked yourself.
So don't. Fuck yourself, I mean.

(30,252 posts)You could have been a lot harsher on me, but you weren't. And I appreciate that.
Hell, Ginny loved you, and I know she'd have been on your side if she was still here.

(12,863 posts)Hell, even Scalia said (in the conext of the assault weapons ban) that certain types of guns can be limited. Fully automatic weapons have been banned since 1934. It's your premise that's bullshit. Quite obviously the line can be drawn; it's just a question of where. That will be determined by Congress, and upheld or struck down by the SCOTUS. Looks like the bigger hurdle is Congress, not the Court or the 2nd Amendment. There is no legitimate civilian use for assault weapons.

P.S. Fuck the NRA
Edited to add: Why is it the only right and freedom the gunners get excited about is the right and freedom to keep their guns?
