I knew it was going bad when his coach got on TV and tearfully testified as to Manti's naive character. Without even waiting to see what the facts were.

The Katie Couric interview will make things even more outrageously train-wreckish.

Finally a sports scandal without child rapes or murdered puppies or the injection of drugs involved. You have to admit that in terms of sports culture this is a breath of fresh air.

is no direct correlation w/general public's fascination, imo.

it is what they want us to be focusing on, rather than what the real news is.

they "program" shows accordingly.

Yeah, the Heisman is supposed to go to the best player. But this ridiculous story got him propelled into the limelight. And he continued to lie about her existence well after his was supposedly told of the hoax.

I think this "love of my life girlfriend that I never met" crap was self-serving.

Yeah, it's a good distraction.

It covered every minute detail of this train wreck and it was to the point where I kept thinking they were gonna say "we seriously don't have any other news to report today."

than Honey Boo Boo.

Hey, maybe that's a new reality show - Manti Te'o and Honey Boo Boo!

Then I can be doubly clueless.

I probably know more about Justin Bieber than I know about Boo Boo and Manti Te'o - whoever and whatever he is.

...as a theme song for the story:

And I learned of a local connection. The guy behind the hoax is a former QB from a local HS where I live:

Still, I had more interest in the story about a meat thermometer attack at my local movie theater.
