Obama's inauguration day: all that's missing is the Queen's golden coach

HA! Click for some British snobbery at the inauguration from Monday 1/21 edition of otherwise good news source The Guardian. Jonathan Freedland brings a historical perspective:

On Monday the avowedly egalitarian United States – which rejected all things regal when it broke from the British mother-country, insisting its president be known not as His Majesty but as plain Mister – anoints its leader with as much ceremony and ritual as it can muster. The oath, the address, the anthem, the parade: all that's missing is the Queen's golden coach.

Yeah, a 35-word oath, a speech, and a short parade is certainly equivalent to a fucking coronation of an unelected monarch assuming lifelong power solely by virtue of their blood.

Damn that is stupid.
