(45,274 posts)I just came in from sunbathing on the deck to check in with DU. I'll be going back out in a minute, soon as the icemaker drops another load for my lemonade.

(47,434 posts)when we lived here the first time. I think that the calculations changed so whatever was -80 then will not be that ominous now.
And... of course, we've had four relatively warm winters.

There has been a clear change in weather patterns within my memory.
There is also a lot less snow than there used to be.

It's almost a relief to get a few days of very cold. Last year we didn't get any, and we've had some creepy-warm days this past week. In January it's not supposed to get above freezing.

(36,269 posts)It's the summer frosts that get the outdoor crop. Wasn't it Mark Twain who said something along the lines of "the coldest winter I've ever spent was summer in San Francisco?"
OK, we don't really have summer frost up on the north coast, but when it's foggy and 60F in the afternoon in August, it sure feels like it!

I feel like a kid with spring fever today. I don't want to work, I want to go outside and play!!

(2,667 posts)I just turned on the weather radio and they are predicting single digit temperatures (F.) tonight along with winds up to 30 mph, resulting in a wind chill somewhere south of -20. If I heard the report correctly they expect it to linger for two or three days, then it will warm back up.
