(86,515 posts)indeed, I don't remember seeing so much support for a president at the inaugural events in my lifetime. Once again, the Mall looked packed. And there were lots of people along the parade route already in place too while the motorcade was traveling to the capitol.

(10,597 posts)1 mil was the final estimate. I had replied to the previous poster that didn't put enough o's in the number... Hey, and I think they limited the crowd. Haven't yet heard any horror stories about not being allowed in, though. Have you?

(51,550 posts)Per DUer Marions Ghost:
"The access points were limited from the outset
The whole mall was fenced off and there was no vehicular traffic for several streets around--the only traffic on these streets was security and the motorcades. Nearby train stations were closed. Buses were used to block every intersection. On the Mall itself, inside the fences and guards, Mall was lined with phalanxes of hundreds of bumper to bumper porto-potties (adding another layer of protection!) Of course there was a lot of rooftop surveillance. Had to pass through a checkpoint (no backpacks allowed).
The Mall was Closed during the proceedings."

(10,597 posts)I knew it was too "organized", too clean cut back there in the back and down those side streets. And they showed allot of those black fences. Looks to me like someone in power somewhere is walking a very fine line between public safety and tamping down support for Obama or democracy itself. Thanks for your reply...

(44,173 posts)Will Smith should get the part; and Gabrielle Union should be Michelle.
Anyway, he actually will see it again, and again and again. He'll be there to see off the new president in 2017 (hopefully Hillary) and former presidents are always invited to attend the inauguration.
