(26,259 posts)I have a very good friend who is a jingle dress dancer. She's a member of the Saginaw Chippawa. I'm hoping to make it up to the pow wow, this summer.

(26,259 posts)I got to meet a lot of Native actors. My friend is an actress with a lot of contacts. Very fun and interesting visits, that's for sure.

(26,259 posts)We Celts have a strong connection to drumming. I know that comforting, healing feeling. It must run in tribal cultures.

(26,259 posts)Kind of 'cousins' to the Irish.
We have a story about a prince, Madoc, who landing in America in the 1100's and, depending on which version of the legend you hear, settled in with the Cherokee, Delaware or traveled far enough to join with the Mandan people. I think it is the Mandan language that contains some suspiciously Welsh sounding words. Anyway, my Native friends figured that whole instinctive tribal pull is why we seemed to make a fast and comfortable connection. When I hear drums, I just have to move. Apparently, atavistic DNA runs strong in my veins.
Life is interesting, isn't it.

(34,373 posts)Maybe we're all related after all, LOL. When I hear drumming, it's like my whole being begins to hum to the beat. I've heard Celtic drumming and it's really quite similar. I MISS IT! That's what I hate about living in Michigan in the winter--no Pow Wows. No drums. No fry bread, sigh...

(26,259 posts)We'd get a fry bread taco - fry bread on the side. Then we'd cover the fry bread with honey, cinnamon and powdered sugar - a little messy but total comfort food.

(34,373 posts)bake bread to save my life either, so I guess it's a gift--either you have it or you don't. My favorite is the Strawberry Fry Bread "Shortcake" at the Three Fires Pow Wow in June. It's peak strawberry season, so you take fresh strawberries, fry bread, and whipped cream & mix them together equals a little piece of heaven!
