After 11 years, 'Two-Buck Chuck' wine price increases to $2.49

Source: San Jose Mercury News

The price of gas goes up, taxes go up, but "Two Buck Chuck'' stayed the same for more than a decade.

No longer. After an 11-year run, the $1.99 price of a bottle of "Two Buck Chuck" wine has disappeared from Trader Joe's in California.

... Joe's had maintained its $1.99 price for 11 years but "quite a bit has happened during those years and the move to $2.49 allows us to offer the same quality that has made the wine famous the world over," Trader Joe's spokeswoman Alison Mochizuki said in an email to this newspaper.

Trader Joe's has sold 5 million cases of Charles Shaw wine a year -- for a total of 660 million bottles, according to its wholesaler, Bronco Wine Co. based in Ceres.

Last I heard the Denver store developer was in a race to beat the Boulder store developer. Which means both places will be getting theirs soon.

Okay, not a high end store by any means, but I've found some good stuff there. A recent purchase netted me Guns n' Roses' "Chinese Democracy" for a buck. And they used to be better for reading glasses before the styles started getting ugly.

price fix in accordance with TJ's any day now. I hate to spend $ there. When I do it's often their loss leaders like this.

TJ's is a bit too far to be convenient without a car.
