For me, publicly I never said anything too cocky and overconfident, lest I jinx things.
But privately, I always knew he was a two term president.

I did have fears about foul play, but I never doubted that the country was behind him.
Hey, you're missing some letters there!

(12,051 posts)Romney was toast. NO ONE, not even the dumb Pubs who dismissed the video, likes to think that Romney might, just might, be referring to THEM. And, of course, the effect on the non-political voters had to be pretty big. Actually, I was surprised that Romney got as many votes as he did.
MichiganVote
(21,086 posts)makes another dumb ass remark. But Rmoney was serious as hell to do with the nation what the Snyder admin. is doing in Michigan. And guess what? We're paying more to get less-a LOT less. But not the wealthy in this state, they're happy as the hogs they truly are.

(36,437 posts)There were definitely days when I was frustrated with self-destructive elements on our own side, but I always knew Barack Obama was too smart for the modern day GOP to really lay a glove on him. We could only beat ourselves. I'm glad beyond words that we did not.

(89,244 posts)but it was more the media whores and how they try to push a story . like what happened with Gore and the sighing. people who actually watched the debate said gore won right after but after the media whores pushing the right wing line the numbers changed.
so it was more the media whores and of course the republicans trying to prevent people from voting.
but i still felt mostly good about another win.

(30,058 posts)We have already given them one election and don't want to repeat it. In talking to some die hard Republicans I don't think they really wanted Romney either.
TTUBatfan2008
(3,623 posts)None of the serious Republican contenders bothered stepping up to the plate. So they ended up with Romney because he could raise a lot of money compared to the other guys he was facing. Problem is Romney had zero moral high ground on Obamacare since he came up with it in the first place. Then he torpedoed himself with the 47% comment.

(23,933 posts)he didn't really "bring it", made me wonder if he was just tired out and didn't want the job anymore. And the media didn't help either - total "Obama blew it" scene there for a while. Figured I'd just better sit tight and wait for debate #2.

(13,776 posts)There was no denying that that first debate was an epic faceplant. Not because his performance would have been, in itself, so bad from anybody else, but because he was capable of destroying Romney completely, and he just sort of... stood there, instead. And the polls reflected that, which really scared me. I absolutely worried after that.
And if it hadn't been for the blessed Nate Silver, I would have worried a lot more leading up to Election Day. The Romney team were so confident, and I'm a weird kind of optimist-about-life-in-general who wants a 99% guarantee before I can really relax. Especially when the stakes are as high as they were.
Thank goodness it all worked out!

(34,358 posts)batshit crazy crap and Romney careened to the right. That's when I knew we had it. I was still uneasy because I didn't trust all the Republican voter suppression, but I knew we'd win all things being equal.

(100,054 posts)First it was Michelle Bachman, then it was Herman Cain, then it was Newt Gingrich who wanted to turn the moon into Disneyland... it was a never ending sea of stupidity. What sealed it for me was the workout photos of Paul Ryan in Time Magazine. All I could think was "this can't be for real can it?"
Nay
(12,051 posts)pictures would help Ryan and Romney??? It just goes to show how completely tone deaf the Pubs are when it comes down to it. Any woman would run screaming from a guy who published/showed her such pictures, because the pictures are the DEFINITION of a guy so self-involved as to be a caricature. How did the Pub leadership not know this? My interpretation is that the whole bunch of them are so self-involved that they have no idea what "self-involved" means. Many voters, I believe, would not be able to articulate this to themselves, but I'd bet they felt weirded out by those photos.

and especially Rachel and Ed, whom I no longer give two spits about anything they say after the first debate, when President Obama roped the dopes bigtime while Mittens flailed away forgetting that he spent his (whatever) and was left with nothing (and had nothing to start off with).
Most masterful chess match of all time.
I knew President Obama would be a two term president the day he won Iowa.
(and I am as confident(come back in 8 years and see) that Hillary will be following with 8 more years of President Obama, during which time President Obama will be asked to be US Supreme Court Justice and the court shall be either 8 to 1 or if Roberts gets really bored, 9 to 0.
and you can look it up.

(14,177 posts)I went so far as to even predict a House victory. That didn't happen. I was sort of right, gerrymandering has been shown to be the culprit in having so many Repugs in the House.
It was a rough couple of weeks after the first debate though. Some people I know that are conservative leaning were crowing for weeks that Obama was going to lose. All I could say is you are wrong time will tell and change the subject. Or I would go off on what an asshat Romney is.
When I first got wind Romney was going to tank badly was when he played Borat in Europe. Then I thought he couldn't get any worse and my entertainment was over. But, I was so wrong, he got much worse. Then while I was still reeling from how much worse, the 47% tape surfaced and then I knew it was over he would not recover from that and my conservative leaning friends conceded defeat.

(13,776 posts)I wasn't worried about the election itself on Election Night, because by then the only way Romney could have won was by cheating, but the GOP has not exactly shown itself to be unwilling to cheat. I still remember Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004 and I am not normally a conspiracy-theorist type. (I don't think that Florida was a conspiracy--just a miscarriage of justice--but I don't believe Bush won Ohio legitimately.)

As for having a second term, after our experience with the Dubya appointment, and all the rest of the ripened manure they spread about the country, my hopes and fears collided.

(22,541 posts)One thing I know. This man knows how to run a campaign. And that debate performance? It wasn't planned like that. No. But we don't know the whole story there, either. It sure wasn't because he was overconfident and skipped prep. That is out of character. I think there was some presidenting going on that had to do with Libya and what he found out was really, really devastating. Being the president takes precedence over running for president.
The other thing I know is that this man has had the 8-year plan mapped out from the beginning. OFA changing from one election to the next, never disbanding after the first election; rather, growing and evolving and becoming more involved in the communities. Then the second election comes around and it's already in place, and it hit the ground running. I was never so proud as I was when I got the first call, so incredibly early, and was asked to meet with the head of OFA in my state for a cup of coffee. In my neighborhood!
And now, it's Organizing For Action. We will get our agenda through. Barack Obama had this planned out before he was even elected. It comes from his days as a community organizer. He built on that, made it national, and now he's giving it back to us. This is his gift. He is giving us the means to achieve our goals. The structure, everything. It's wonderful. All we have to do is take it.
